Platform Access
Beta Access System
- • Current Status: CourseShelf is currently in beta testing phase
- • Access Requirements: Platform access is currently open to all users during beta
- • Feature Changes: Features may change, be added, or removed during beta testing
- • Service Availability: We strive for high uptime but cannot guarantee 100% availability during beta
Account Creation
- • Age Requirement: You must be at least 13 years old to create an account and use CourseShelf
- • OAuth Only: Accounts must be created using Google or GitHub OAuth
- • Valid Credentials: You must use valid, active OAuth provider credentials
- • One Account: Users should maintain only one account per person
- • Account Security: You are responsible for maintaining the security of your OAuth provider account
User Accounts & Data
Required Information
- • Name and Email: Provided automatically through OAuth
- • Profile Picture: Avatar URL from your OAuth provider
- • Username: Generated automatically, can be customized
Optional Profile Information
- • Bio: Personal description of your learning journey
- • Social Links: Twitter, LinkedIn, GitHub, and website links
- • Profile Visibility: Control whether your profile is public or private (Student plan feature)
Course Content & Submissions
Course Submission Guidelines
- • Legitimate Courses: Only submit real, accessible online courses
- • Accurate Information: Course titles, descriptions, and URLs must be accurate
- • No Spam: Do not submit duplicate or low-quality course entries
- • Platform Compliance: Courses must comply with their hosting platform's terms
YouTube API Compliance
- • API Usage: We use YouTube's API to fetch course metadata and thumbnails
- • Content Ownership: All YouTube content remains property of its creators
- • Creator Verification: Creator plan users can verify YouTube channel ownership through OAuth
- • Policy Compliance: All YouTube content must comply with YouTube's Terms of Service
User-Generated Content
Reviews & Ratings
- • Honest Reviews: Reviews should be based on your actual experience with the course
- • Respectful Language: Use professional, constructive language in reviews
- • No Conflicts of Interest: Disclose any relationship with course creators
- • Content Ownership: You retain ownership of your reviews but grant us license to display them
Playlists & Collections
- • Original Content: Create meaningful, organized course collections
- • Privacy Controls: Choose between public and private playlists (Student plan feature)
- • Appropriate Names: Use descriptive, appropriate playlist titles and descriptions
- • Quality Standards: Maintain well-organized, relevant course collections
Activity Feed & Community Visibility
- • Activity Tracking: Your interactions on CourseShelf (course submissions, reviews, library updates, public playlist creations) may appear in the community activity feed
- • Privacy Control: You can control your visibility in the activity feed by managing your profile privacy settings
- • Public Profile Requirement: Only users with public profiles will have their activities displayed in the community feed
- • Content Responsibility: You are responsible for the public nature of your activities when your profile is set to public
- • Automatic Cleanup: Activity data is automatically removed when you delete the associated content or make your profile private

- • Course Discovery: Find and share quality learning resources
- • Community Building: Help other learners through reviews and recommendations
- • Knowledge Sharing: Create useful playlists and provide constructive feedback
- • Platform Improvement: Report bugs and suggest new features
Prohibited Activities
- • Spam or Abuse: No automated submissions, fake reviews, or content manipulation
- • Harmful Content: No harassment, discriminatory language, or inappropriate material
- • Platform Exploitation: No attempts to circumvent security measures or abuse features
- • Copyright Violation: No submission of copyrighted content without permission
- • Commercial Spam: No excessive self-promotion or unrelated commercial content
Intellectual Property
Course Content Ownership
- • Third-Party Content: All course content belongs to its original creators
- • Metadata Only: We only store course metadata, descriptions, and links
- • Fair Use: Course information is shared under fair use for educational discovery
- • Takedown Requests: We respect DMCA takedown requests from content owners
User Content Rights
- • Your Content: You retain ownership of reviews, playlists, and profile content
- • Platform License: You grant us license to display and distribute your content on CourseShelf
- • Content Management: You can edit and delete individual reviews and playlists through your profile
- • Platform Rights: CourseShelf branding, design, and code remain our property

- • Access Grants System: Future paid plans will provide enhanced features and access

- • Advertiser Plan: Access to anonymous analytics data and insights
- • Grandfathering: Current beta users may receive special consideration when paid plans launch

Payment, Refunds & Billing
Current Beta Status
CourseShelf is currently completely free during our beta phase. We do not collect payments, process credit cards, or charge any fees. Since there are no charges, no refunds are applicable at this time.

Future Payment Processing
When paid features become available, our payment process will be conducted by our secure payment processor, which provides customer service inquiries and handles returns.
- • Automatic Billing: Subscriptions will renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date
- • Payment Methods: Credit cards, PayPal, and regional payment options
- • Taxes Included: All fees are inclusive of taxes, levies, or duties imposed by taxing authorities
- • Currency: Multiple currencies supported with localized pricing in different regions
Refund Policy
- • Standard Refunds: 14-day full refund period for new subscriptions
- • Processing Time: Refunds processed within 5-7 business days to the original payment method
- • Technical Issues: Full refunds available if technical issues prevent normal platform usage
- • Contact Required: Always contact our support team before initiating chargebacks or disputes
Plan Changes & Cancellation
- • Cancel Anytime: Users can cancel subscriptions at any time through account settings
- • End of Period Access: Cancelled subscriptions remain active until the end of the current billing period
- • Upgrade/Downgrade: Plan changes take effect immediately with prorated billing adjustments
- • Feature Loss: Downgrading may cause loss of features or capacity. CourseShelf accepts no liability for such loss
Non-Refundable Situations
- • Terms Violations: Accounts terminated for spam, abuse, or Terms of Service violations
- • Fraudulent Chargebacks: Will result in permanent account suspension
- • Partial Periods: After the refund period, no partial refunds for unused portions of monthly subscriptions
Note: Fees paid for services are generally non-refundable outside the specified refund periods, except where required by applicable law.
Limitation of Liability
- • Service "As Is": CourseShelf is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranties, express or implied, during beta testing
- • No Service Guarantees: We make no warranties regarding uptime, availability, or uninterrupted service
- • Course Quality: We do not guarantee the quality, accuracy, or availability of third-party courses
- • User Content: We are not responsible for user-generated reviews, ratings, or playlists
- • External Links: We are not responsible for external course platforms or their content
- • Data Loss: While we implement backups, we cannot guarantee against data loss during beta
- • Beta Disclaimer: Features may be incomplete, contain bugs, or cause unexpected behavior
- • Damages: Our liability is limited to the amount you have paid us (currently $0 during beta)

- • Applicable Law: These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Brazil

- • International Users: These terms apply to all users regardless of location, subject to local laws

Formal Disputes
- • Jurisdiction: Any legal disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of Brazilian courts
- • Venue: Legal proceedings shall take place in São Paulo, SP, Brazil
- • Language: All proceedings will be conducted in Portuguese, with translation provided as needed
- • Limitation Period: Claims must be brought within one year of the issue arising
